Every finance app gives you the same dashboard: a pie chart, a bar graph, a list of categories someone else decided you need. It answers the questions the designers predicted. But your questions don't come from a design spec.

*Who did I actually pay the most last month?* *Why was March so expensive?* *Am I spending more on food delivery than I did before Diwali?*

Starting today, you can just ask. **AI chat is live in Spenco** — in the dashboard and the mobile app.

## Your questions, your words

There's no query language to learn and no filters to configure. Type the question the way you'd ask a friend who happens to be very good with spreadsheets:

- **"Who are my top merchants this month?"** — ranked, with amounts, computed from your actual transactions.
- **"How much did I spend on Swiggy and Zomato combined last quarter?"** — merchant search across every account you've connected.
- **"Which subscriptions am I paying for?"** — recurring charges surfaced, including the ones you forgot.
- **"Compare my spending this month vs last month."** — category-by-category, so you can see exactly what moved.
- **"What did I spend on groceries vs eating out this month?"** — categories compared side by side.

## Real answers, not estimates

This isn't a chatbot with opinions. When you ask a question, Spenco's AI reads your **actual data** — the same transactions, accounts, and insights that power the rest of the app — and computes the answer live. You'll see it working ("looking at your transactions…") before it replies. Every figure is in rupees, every merchant is one you actually paid, and if the data can't answer the question, it says so instead of guessing.

Under the hood, chat has four windows into your finances:

## It can look, but it can't touch

We made one rule non-negotiable: **chat is read-only.** It can analyse your spending, but it cannot move money, edit transactions, or change anything in your account. And it only ever sees *your* data — scoped to your login, enforced on our servers, not left up to the AI's good manners.

## Your conversations are never stored

Chat is **stateless by design**. Your questions are processed in memory to compute an answer, and then they're gone — we don't save your conversations on our servers, ever. There is no chat history database. The conversation you see lives only on your device, for that session.

Money questions are personal — even the everyday ones, like what you spend on groceries or how your electricity bill compares to last summer. Those answers should exist only for you. Period.

## Questions we've seen people love

A few favourites from early testing, to get you started:

- "What's my average daily spend, and which day of the week is the most expensive?"
- "Did my electricity bill go up compared to last summer?"
- "How much did utilities — electricity, mobile, broadband — cost me this month?"
- "Find every transaction above ₹5,000 in the last 90 days."
- "If my spending stays like this, how much will I save by December?"

That last one is where this is heading — chat that doesn't just explain where your money went, but joins the prediction engine in telling you where it's *going*.

## What's next

Chat is rolling out now in the [Spenco dashboard](https://spenco.ai) and the mobile app. Coming soon: connecting Spenco to Claude and other AI assistants directly, so you can ask about your money from wherever you already work.

Ask your money something today — and tell us what it should be able to answer next.
